On Sept. 26, 2014, the Turfitt family embarked
on one awesome family vacation!
We started in Seattle and drove a motorhome
all the way to Mesa with lots of sightseeing in between.
Porter, you experienced your third plane ride.
You're definitely a lot busier than you were four months ago,
but you were still very well behaved
and we received lots of compliments.
When we got to Seattle, we went straight to the great wheel.
We loved admiring this sparkling city.
After that, we walked to the space needle.
But you were exhausted from all the traveling
and didn't stay awake long enough to take in the sights.
The next morning, we went to see the Seattle temple.
It was beautiful.
We were very impressed with the grounds.
It had a walking trail, beautiful statues and a big fountain.
Then, we picked up our camper.
And this became our home for the next seven days!
Our first stop was Portland,
where we met up with one of mommy's friends from college
and ate dinner with her awesome family.
We also got to see the Portland temple,
and it was truly magnificent.
Very bold and beautiful.
We stayed the night at an RV park on the Oregon coast.
It was late when we pulled in,
but we could hear the Pacific waves crashing.
Our sleeping arrangements in the camper
were so that one of us slept with you
and the other slept alone on the top bunk.
The first night, early in the morning,
mommy had to use the restroom,
and as she was getting down
she fell out of the top bunk.
Of course, daddy jumped out of bed
and came to mommy's aid.
She was fine, but her knee was pretty bruised up the rest of the trip.

Porter's first time to see the Pacific Ocean 9.28.14
We drove south from there,
and entered into the Redwoods National Forrest.
We stayed the night amid these big powerful trees.
The next day, we took a gondola ride through the Redwoods. |

You were really good riding sometimes 8 hours each day.
You would get fussy at times
and I would take you out to sit next to me.
When we finally reached our destination each evening,
we would take you out and all you wanted to do was play with the broom.
The next day we went over the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco.
This was daddy's favorite part of the trip.
We met up with another one of mommy's good friends from college
and got to meet and hang out with his sweet family.
When we left San Francisco,
we went by the Oakland temple.
Again, the grounds were so beautiful.
They have a babbling brook that leads to this big fountain.
It was sooooo pretty.
Then, we drove Big Sur, which was absolutely unbelievably incredible!
There were times when we could only go 15 mph because the road was so winding.
We stayed the night in Santa Barbara again on the Pacific Ocean.

Then...we went to...DISNEYLAND!
 |
| Porter on the teacups. Disneyland 10.1.14 |
We had so much fun at Disneyland.
Daddy went when he was very little and couldn't remember,
but it was mommy and Porter's first time.
We rode almost every ride,
and you were such a trooper with all of them.
You only got a little scared at
the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.
We bought you a Mickey Mouse pillow that lights up.
You lay on it and say "Night, night."
Adorable.
We stayed the night right outside of Anaheim,
and had a really funny experience with a skunk.
We'll tell you all about it one day ;)
The next day, we stopped in Lake Havasu City
on our way to the Grand Canyon.
 |
| Mommy, Porter & Daddy Grand Canyon 10.3.14 |
Mommy had been to the canyon once before,
and she couldn't wait for daddy to see it.
She kept telling him how amazing it is,and he would say,
"It better be as good as you're making it out to be."
And it was.
Everyone was very impressed.
We stayed there two nights
and hiked almost all of the southern rim.
It was nice to relax at the end of our trip.

| Porter & Daddy Family Vacation 2014 |
It was a trip that we will remember forever.
And we are so glad we were able to take you with us, Porter.
You will always be able to say
that you have seen the entire West Coast.
We love you!
