Porter is walking!

After we got back from vacation,
we were working really hard with you to get you walking.

You were definitely more interested.
It was probably due to all those hours you spent in a carseat during the trip.

You were always very cautious when it came to walking.
Every time you noticed you were standing up on your own,
you would quickly sit down.

But on Friday, October 10, 2014,
you really got the hang of it!

You were so excited (but not as excited as we were)!
Every time you would take a couple of steps
and we would cheer you would smile so big.
In fact, you still smile really big when you walk.
You're so proud! And we are proud of you!

Porter's First Family Vacation

On Sept. 26, 2014, the Turfitt family embarked
on one awesome family vacation!
We started in Seattle and drove a motorhome
all the way to Mesa with lots of sightseeing in between.

Porter, you experienced your third plane ride.
You're definitely a lot busier than you were four months ago,
but you were still very well behaved
and we received lots of compliments.

When we got to Seattle, we went straight to the great wheel.
We loved admiring this sparkling city.

After that, we walked to the space needle.
But you were exhausted from all the traveling
and didn't stay awake long enough to take in the sights.

The next morning, we went to see the Seattle temple.
It was beautiful.
We were very impressed with the grounds.
It had a walking trail, beautiful statues and a big fountain.

Then, we picked up our camper.
And this became our home for the next seven days!

Our first stop was Portland,
where we met up with one of mommy's friends from college
and ate dinner with her awesome family.

We also got to see the Portland temple,
and it was truly magnificent.
Very bold and beautiful.

We stayed the night at an RV park on the Oregon coast.
It was late when we pulled in,
but we could hear the Pacific waves crashing.

Our sleeping arrangements in the camper
were so that one of us slept with you
and the other slept alone on the top bunk.
The first night, early in the morning,
mommy had to use the restroom,
and as she was getting down
she fell out of the top bunk.
Of course, daddy jumped out of bed
and came to mommy's aid.
She was fine, but her knee was pretty bruised up the rest of the trip.

Porter's first time to see the Pacific Ocean 9.28.14

We drove south from there,
and entered into the Redwoods National Forrest.
We stayed the night amid these big powerful trees.

The next day, we took a gondola ride through the Redwoods.

You were really good riding sometimes 8 hours each day.
You would get fussy at times
and I would take you out to sit next to me.
When we finally reached our destination each evening,
we would take you out and all you wanted to do was play with the broom.

The next day we went over the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco.
This was daddy's favorite part of the trip.

We met up with another one of mommy's good friends from college
and got to meet and hang out with his sweet family.

When we left San Francisco,
we went by the Oakland temple.
Again, the grounds were so beautiful.
They have a babbling brook that leads to this big fountain.
It was sooooo pretty.

Then, we drove Big Sur, which was absolutely unbelievably incredible!
There were times when we could only go 15 mph because the road was so winding.
We stayed the night in Santa Barbara again on the Pacific Ocean.

Porter & Mommy at Big Sur 9.30.14
Then...we went to...DISNEYLAND!

Porter on the teacups. Disneyland 10.1.14
We had so much fun at Disneyland.
Daddy went when he was very little and couldn't remember,
but it was mommy and Porter's first time.
We rode almost every ride,
and you were such a trooper with all of them.
You only got a little scared at
the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.
We bought you a Mickey Mouse pillow that lights up.
You lay on it and say "Night, night."
Adorable.

We stayed the night right outside of Anaheim,
and had a really funny experience with a skunk.
We'll tell you all about it one day ;)

The next day, we stopped in Lake Havasu City
on our way to the Grand Canyon.

Mommy, Porter & Daddy Grand Canyon 10.3.14
Mommy had been to the canyon once before,
and she couldn't wait for daddy to see it.
She kept telling him how amazing it is,and he would say,
"It better be as good as you're making it out to be."
And it was.
Everyone was very impressed.

We stayed there two nights
and hiked almost all of the southern rim.
It was nice to relax at the end of our trip.

Porter & Daddy Family Vacation 2014
It was a trip that we will remember forever.
And we are so glad we were able to take you with us, Porter.

You will always be able to say
that you have seen the entire West Coast.

We love you!

Happy 1st Birthday, Porter!

Happy birthday, Porter!
I'm a little a lot late posting this,
but we sure have been busy.
(Because you keep us that way!)

You had an awesome 1st birthday.
Lots of friends and family came to the party.

(l to r: Porter, Liam, Bree & Cullen 8.23.14)
You are such a great eater,
we knew you would love your cake.
And you did not disappoint.
At first, you thought about going in head first...

But after some thought,
you just starting grabbing gobs with your hands...

And stuffing it in your mouth.

You were adorable...and very entertaining.

You got lots of great gifts.

And went swimming.

We love our little one year old!

11 months and then some...

My dear sweet baby boy,
I'm talking to you on the phone right now.
Babagagamamadada.
The sweetest sounds that fill my life right now.

You are the most adorable thing I have ever experienced.
You are so fun and funny.
Right now you are very into imitating laughter,
which makes you mommy and daddy laugh even more.

You still have a very laidback personality,
but when you want something you definitely know
how to ask for it demand it.

You are very curious about everything and everyone.
You are not shy either. You go to anyone and love to people watch.

You are still a very good baby....
even with lots of teeth coming in right now.
I think you have four or five coming in on the top.
I want to make note that you grew in
your two middle bottom teeth around 7 months.
And we waited and waited and waited...
it wasn't until 11 months that your top middle tooth
looked like it was coming in...
BUT then your top canine just shot out...
then your lateral incisor...
then your other lateral incisor...
we're still waiting on the top middle teeth to come in.

You are a great traveler.
You do well in the car...
and on the boat...

First boat ride 7.4.14 Daddy & Porter

You still aren't walking, but you are getting very close.
You are very content with your fast crawl and pulling up on everything.

We spend a lot of time in the living room playing on the floor.
You are lots of fun to play with
and lately you have been very cuddly.
You will be playing, and all of a sudden
you will crawl over to mommy and sit in her lap.
I love this!

Mommy & Porter 7.26.14
You started drinking whole milk a couple weeks ago.
You have done very well with it,
and you still eat like a pig.

You still love your feet.
You prop them up on everything.
And you even use them to move and grab things.
You are just like your daddy!

Your birthday is this Saturday,
and mommy truly can't believe it.
Right now, you have a little cold,
but it's the first time you have even been to the doc
since you were 5 months old.
We are very grateful for your good health.

We love your spirit of adventure
and your very easy-going attitude.
You are just very likeable and fun to be around.
Everyone always comments on how good you are.
And we couldn't agree more!

Mommy, Daddy & Porter Summer 2014
You started giving kisses on July 12th, 2014.
I want to remember that date because it was
the sweetest moment of my life.
We love you, Porter Pie!

Porter Pie's nicknames

You, Porter, have been given some awesome
(and maybe not so awesome) nicknames
in your short life!

Right away, for whatever reason,
we started calling you Porter Pie.

And your daddy always called you "my baby boy."
He would call me during the day and say, "How's my baby boy?"
And he has this certain way of saying it. So cute!
He loves you a lot.

We've also called you
Porter poopoo pants,
P-man,
boogerface,
boogerhead,
stinky butt,

Porter piglet,
Porter pumpkin,
Porterbello mushroom,
monkey butt,
and po-boy.

Whatever we call you,
I hope you know it is out of love and laughter.

And we hope you don't hate it when you're older ;)

10 months have come and gone

Our baby boy is growing up so fast!

Only two more months and you'll be a year old.
Time truly has played a trick on us.

You are doing something new every day.
You are very talkative and moving around like crazy.
You are still skinny, but you are getting very long.

And (drumroll please)....

You started crawling last Friday, June 20, 2014.

We've been waiting for you to start any day now.
You would get up on your knees and
maybe scoot forward a little but that was all.
Your dad was dropping you off at Aunt Maureen's,
and he said he set you on the bed and you just took off.
I love the face you have in the video.
Like you're just so proud of yourself.

We're so proud of you too.
(Even though it means a lot more work for us ;)

You are also scooting all over the place in your walker.
You really know how to maneuver that thing.
Your dad said one morning you were heading towards the living room,
but then you saw him peeling a banana and you turned around to go after it.
You are so silly.

You were even doing this before you started crawling...

You are obviously very determined.
You know what you want and you just go for it.

You are still such a pig!
You want to eat everything!

EE's 61st birthday. 5.28.14
Sometimes we hide from you when we eat
because you will throw a fit.

And you have just started throwing some major fits this past weekend.
You were such a grumpy butt at church on Sunday.

We don't mind too much though because most of the time we get this...

And even this early in the morning...

You and Scout have started to interact more.
Most of the time it consists of you crawling over to her
to grab her tail or pinch her cheek or touch her belly.
Usually she just gets up and moves somewhere else,
but sometimes she can be sweet.

Your hair is still growing and the weight is making it more tame.
But it does get in your eyes and most of the time when I pick
you up in the afternoons it is pulled up like this...

You can thank your aunts for all that.

We are really enjoying the summer time.

You love to swim.
You either kick your feet like crazy
or just totally relax in your float.

We are getting to spend a lot of time with cousins.

Liam & Porter 6.14.14

Porter, Uncle Tommy & Thomas 6.15.14

In fact, your twin cousins were born two weeks ago!

Mommy & Daddy with Ava & Mae 6.13.14
We celebrated Father's Day
with the best daddy in the whole wide world.

Porter & Daddy, First Father's Day 6.15.14

We think you might be a little comedian.
You love to make people laugh,
and you love to laugh yourself.
You are so much fun to watch and just be around.

This has been one of our favorite pastimes...

We cheer for you and you just love it!

It's amazing to see you figuring out the world through
those big blue eyes of yours.

We love you, Porter!
