Ty's Blessing

Ty was blessed at church by Daddy on
Sunday, August 2, 2015.

Coincidentally, this was also the first time he smiled.
Like a real smile. Daddy was changing his diaper in the morning
and he was smiling as big as the sun. It was adorable!

Welcome to the world, Ty Harry Turfitt!

On July 3, 2015, at 3:49 p.m., the Turfitt family went from this...

to this...

and we couldn't be more excited!

It was a Friday morning and I was off of work for Independence Day.
My water broke at about 2:30 a.m.
I stayed in bed until about 5:30 when I felt the first contraction.
At about 7:30 I told your dad that it was time to get up and get moving.
He made breakfast and we ate and left for the hospital at about 8.

I was 3 cm dilated but the doctor was unsure about my water breaking.
She said I may have had a forebag attached, but they admitted me anyway.
Which was a good thing because my other water broke soon after
and contractions were coming closer and closer together.
I decided to get the epidural at about 6 cm at about 1 p.m.
The process took a while, but after it was done the nurse put me on my side.
It was very uncomfortable so I rolled to my back again.
When I did this I got a pain across my stomach and my lower back.
The nurse checked and I was dilated to 10 cm.
She called the doctor who arrived about 30 minutes later
and she said your head was making its way out.
I was so excited to meet you!

I only had to push a few times and there you were.

The doc commented on how clean you were.
You looked like you just got out of the shower.
And everyone agreed you were perfectly healthy.
You scored a 9 out 10 on your Apgar.
And you latched right away and didn't stop eating for the next two days.

That evening, Aunt BZ and Uncle Jeff came to visit,
as well as EE, Aunt Amber, Aunt Maureen, Grandad and Aunt Macy.

EE brought your big brother so you were able to meet
just a few hours after you were born...

The next day was Independence Day, and Uncle Tommy and Thomas came to visit,
as well as Aunt Lauren, Honey, Ms. Amber, Chanley and Cullen.

We were able to go home Sunday afternoon.
It was a beautiful day full of sunshine with a few scattered rain storms.
You and your brother took a nap together in your new room.
My heart almost burst with happiness seeing our little family altogether.

So far you're pretty much a dream baby.
You eat great and sleep great.
Last night you slept for 7 hours straight!
Lately, you have been a bit fussy (we think it's your stomach),
but it really isn't that bad at all.

Porter really liked you at the hospital,
but after we brought you home he wasn't too excited.
The first two weeks were filled with him kissing you half the time
and hitting you in the head and yelling "hey!" at you when you cried
the other half of the time.

But he's come along since.
Now he loves to give you kisses all the time.
And says "I hold the baby" and we let him hold you,
but he loses interest after two seconds.

He also says "Baby Ty cries" and "Baby Ty feel better."

I'll be home with you for another eight weeks,
and Porter begins school the week after next.
Daddy has been very busy with work,
but we are hoping after this week things will slow down.

We already love you so much,
and we can't wait to watch you grow!

My Dearest Porter

My Dearest Porter,

Your world is about to be rocked. That's all I keep thinking about as we are impatiently awaiting the arrival of your little brother. Sometimes I just watch you playing with your little blocks or kicking the ball, and I think about how everything you've grown to be so comfortable with over the past 22 months is all about to change.

And by the way, you also managed to break your arm falling off your little bike inside the house. And we sold our house and will be living with EE for the next six months.

So really. Your world is about to be rocked. And yet somehow you manage to smile and laugh through all of it, which reassures us as your parents that everything really will be just fine.

Your Dad and I look at each other at the end of each day and begin to talk about all the cute things you did that day and how much you impress us and how proud we are of you and how amazed we are by your little personality. We know you're going to be a great big brother!

Mom 32 weeks pregnant with Ty.
Right now, you have mixed feelings about your Mom's growing belly. A lot of times you like to kiss it and go "baby." But other times you yell "ball, ball" and reach under my shirt to try to get the "ball." And we can get you to say "baby Ty" every now and then, and you know the sign for baby.

You are a very good listener and very observant. It's not hard to teach you things because you are very interested in learning. It makes us very proud.

You enjoy spending your mornings with Daddy before he takes you to the sitter. And he says most mornings you would rather watch golf than cartoons and you say "goooood shot." When Mommy picks you up in the afternoon you are always in a good mood. And we either run errands or go home to play. Lately we've been playing a lot inside because when you get out of the car you say "it's hot side" or "I water the plants."

We really can't believe how smart you are and how much you have grown just in the last couple of months. We love you so much and just hope that that love will multiply when Ty gets here. We hope that somehow our parenting skills will multiply as well. We don't ever want you to feel like we love you any less because if anything we love you so much more for taking everything in stride and accepting this new role as big brother.

Love always,
Mom and Dad

Many Updates

Porter and Ty, you are both growing so much.

Mommy felt Ty move for the first time on Friday, January 23.
After work, I was sitting in the recliner with Porter in my lap
and I felt you move. And then you moved again and again.
I thought it was awesome that your brother was part of that too.

Daddy felt Ty move for the first time on Sunday, March 1.
He tried to feel you many times before but you never wanted to cooperate.
After church, I was sitting on the couch
and told your Dad to please come over and try to feel.
And this time you kept moving a lot.
It is always a joy to see that smile stretch across your Dad's face.
He is so excited to meet you.

Porter had hernia surgery on March 3.
It was a small, very simple operation
but of course Mommy and Daddy were still very nervous.
However, everything went great,
and you are recovering extremely well.

Porter talks A LOT.
At 18 months, you say more than 50 words including
milk, cheese, banana, moon, ackygator (alligator), oh no!, alright!,what's that?,
nigh night, NOOOO, I love you, I'm a good boy, see the birds and many more.
You talk and talk and talk even when we absolutely do not understand you.
I really wish I could get inside your little head to know what you were saying.
It's so good to see you communicating so well.
You also know sign language for more, bath, dog, shoes, bath and milk.
You are so smart, and it makes me so proud!

You are also very hardheaded and demanding (like your Mom).
I know I will appreciate this about you one day,
but right now it is very hard.
You are starting to throw some tantrums.
And I want you to know that we try to ignore you,
and you actually get over them pretty quickly.

Overall, you're usually very fun to be around.
You love to laugh and make people laugh.
Lately, you have been doing this really funny, deep, hearty laugh
that makes your Mom absolutely crack up.
And that just makes you do it more.

You LOVE balls. Any kind of ball.
If you see a ball you yell "ball, ball."
It could be on TV, outside, in a picture, on your clothes.
It doesn't matter. We hear "ball, ball" all the time.
You love to kick balls. You set the ball down, step back, run and kick.
You're very good at it!
The neighbors two houses down have a basketball goal in the street.
Every time we get home and get you out of your car seat,
you start shouting "ball, ball" and run down the road to play basketball.
Many times we have to carry you back home kicking and screaming.
You also play with tennis rackets, golf clubs,
baseball bats and mitts, anything to do with sports.
When sports are on the TV, you yell "go, go, go!"
Yesterday, you were running through the house
carrying your football yelling "go, go, go!"

You also love music.
Right now, your instruments of choice include
the piano ("pino"), guitar ("tar), ukulele and harmonica.
You are very good at strumming a guitar with Daddy's pick
(until you drop it in the hole).
And you go around the house all the time playing the harmonica.
I really feel like you are very drawn to music.
Not in the sense where you dance and move to it
because you really don't do that a lot.
But when you listen to it, I can tell you are very intrigued.

Right now you are very into Thomas the Train,
and you always ask to watch "choo, choo."
Every time you hear a train, you say "choo, choo."
You are also starting to watch some Sesame Street too.

You are well aware that there is a baby in Mommy's belly,
but you also think that everyone else has a baby in their belly.
You point to your belly and say "baby"
and Daddy says "no, belly button"
and you say "NO, BABY!"
I really think you know that your little brother is in there though.
You always want to lift my shirt to look at my belly,
and then you hug and kiss it and give it zerberts.

Everything you do amazes us.
We love you so much and can't wait to see you become an awesome big brother.

And we finally have a name...

Introducing Ty Harry Turfitt.

Ty, I hope you love your name.
As I have explained to your brother,
picking a name for a child is not easy at all.
It is a huge responsibility.

I want you to know your middle name was decided
as soon as we found out we were having another boy.
Harry is your great grandfather's name.
He was wild and crazy and also full of service and love.
You will be told many stories about the legacy he left.
He was like a father to me (your mother).
He taught me so many things about life.
I hope you honor his name.

Mom at 8 weeks with Ty.
 Ty was a different process.
Over a year ago, someone at church said
that her son wanted to name her new baby Ty,
and I immediately like it.
Ty Turfitt. I like that.
They went with Tyler instead, and I just remembered it.

Mom at 16 weeks with Ty.
But definitely deciding on it was not easy.
I also liked Grant, Graham, Beau, Brock and a few others.
Your Dad told me I could name you since he named Porter,
but of course I still wanted him to like the name.
We went back and forth between Ty and Grant mostly.
But the more I said 'Ty' the more I grew to love it.
And I hope you love it too.

Merry Christmas, It's Another Boy!

We had a wonderful holiday season this year.
We spent Thanksgiving at EE's house,
and ate massive amounts of food.

Then, it was on to the Christmas season.

Porter and Mommy got Daddy a really big gift.
And Porter enjoyed signing his name.

Porter on Christmas Eve 2014
We had a great time at Honey's on Christmas Eve
with all of our wonderful siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Aunt Kasey got Porter this popper,
and he absolutely loved it.
He popped it all night long! And still does.

On Christmas morning, we couldn't wait to wake
and find out if we were having a boy or a girl.
Mommy took a blood test at the doctor's office a couple of weeks before
and we received the results two days before Christmas.
We were so excited when we opened it and found out it was another boy.
We are so glad you with have a little brother to play with, Porter.
And we are so glad for you, new baby,
that you will have an older brother to always look out for you.

Meanwhile, Porter is getting wilder and wilder by the day.
EE is now keeping him two days each week.
And sometimes he goes to a little daycare at a lady named Teri Harmon's house.
His first day there was Wednesday, January 21st,
and Mommy and Daddy were both a nervous wreck.
But she said Porter were very well-behaved :)
Porter loves interacting with other kids
so we are happy when he is happy.

Mommy's Birthday Surprise!

Your mommy turned 29 on November 7, 2014.

On the same day she also found out she was going to have another baby!

 At my first doctor's appointment,
we were given an original due date of the 4th of July.
But after they did an ultrasound,
they pushed it back to 7/11.

So far, I have not been nearly as sick with this baby as I was with Porter.
It's been a very nice change!

We are so excited for you to be a big brother, Porter.
And we are so excited for you to join our little family, new baby.

Porter's 2nd Halloween

Halloween was a lot of fun this year!
It's great to start the holiday season with fun traditions.

We let you pick a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch.

We attended lots of fun parties.
You were Dwight from The Office (you will understand one day).
Your costume was a hit everywhere we went.

On Halloween, your cousins came over to trick-or-treat with us.

Thomas, Porter, Harrison & Taylor Halloween 2014
We loved hanging on to family traditions
and beginning new ones with you.
